Neurofeedback

What is Neurofeedback?

In some mental and physical health conditions, the electrical signals that pass from brain cell to brain cell (brainwaves) can become disrupted. Neurofeedback, a form of biofeedback, helps your brain learn to regulate its brainwaves through the process of interacting with an electronic device (usually with video and/ or audio components) which measures and reflects information about your brain’s electrical activity in real time. These healthier patterns of brainwave activity can:
• Help the brain regulate
• Correct or reduce symptoms or barriers to optimal performance
• Optimize nervous system functioning

Who Can Benefit?
Neurofeedback can work on anyone, no matter the age. All that is required is the ability to focus on the audio or video stimulation. Any condition that involves irregular brainwaves can be targeted and improved. These conditions include but are not limited to:

• ADHD, ASD & Behavioral Challenges
• Addiction
•Anxiety and Depression
• PPD and PMDD
• Performance Optimization
• Sleep Disorders
• Concussions & Trauma

How do you do Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback training usually begins with an assessment called a qEEG, which collects realtime data on brain functioning. The results of the qEEG will show your neurofeedback providers areas where your brain may need training.
The training itself consists of you watching a video or playing a game, and, as your brainwaves come into the range they need to be in, your brain will be rewarded with positive feedback in the video or game. As the training sessions go on, your brain will learn to stay within healthier ranges of brainwaves activity even outside of training sessions.

How is it Different?
• Non-Invasive – Both the qEEG and neurofeedback training involve electrodes sitting on your scalp. There is no electricity put into the brain; the electrodes simply measure the electrical activity already occurring within your body.
• Fewer Side Effects – The most common side-effects include mild headaches, sleepiness, anxiety, and lack of focus. They typically resolve within 24-48 hours.
• Gets to the Root If someone is struggling to find stabilization, neurofeedback may be helpful alongside individual therapy.
