Get Involved Mayfield Counseling Centers Expansion Mayfield Counseling Centers will not stand idly by to watch another family be ripped apart by mental illness and suicide. We will strive to help reduce the stigma of mental health by coming alongside individuals and families with comprehensive, quality services that will meet the specific needs of the community. Immediate Need: Colorado Springs has an alarming rate of teen suicides, heartbreakingly exceeding the national average. In the past 14 months, our community has had 26 teen suicides, as well as an increase in adult suicides (many from our military and veteran community). We are addressing this community crisis by developing office and activities space within northern Colorado Springs to engage teens, adolescents and their families in vital, life-giving resources on a multi-generational level. We will provide group activities, therapeutic and life-skill groups as well as individual counseling, in order to enhance lifestyle behaviors and choices. Ultimately, our vision for this center is to provide an environment which will allow teens and adolescents to grasp an appreciation for healthy mind/body/spirit activities. These skills will lend themselves to a life-long pursuit of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and work-life balance, for this generation as well as future ones. This center will also seek to meet the needs of individuals, couples, and families as they navigate depression, anxiety, trauma, parenting struggles, relationship issues, etc. Response: Community Counseling Center in Flying Horse/Northgate: On May 1st, 2017 Mayfield Counseling Centers will be open a north office embedded in the Flying Horse/Northgate region of Northern Colorado Springs (the epicenter of the increase in suicides). This new office will support the community by providing: Counseling Services: We will provide ongoing quality comprehensive services (e.g. individual appointments, family appointments, groups, and training sessions). On-Call Crisis Services: With the escalation of teen suicide in Colorado Springs, there is an increased need for accessible Crisis Services. We will develop a 24/7 Crisis Hotline whereby individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, or other mental health needs, will be able to call to talk with a licensed professional. Walk-in Appointment Availability: We will provide walk-in appointment availability allowing a student, parent, and/or family access to immediate support in a crisis situation. Community Support: By being embedded in Flying Horse/Northgate, we will have the opportunity to experience the pulse of the community (e.g. schools, churches, neighborhoods), and provide appropriate services (e.g. support groups, trainings, etc.) in a timely manner. Partnership with Academy School District 20: We have been asked to become an ongoing support to the already established programs within Colorado Springs Academy School District 20. We met with the Assistant Superintendent on Thursday March 9th, and have been invited to the district-wide principal meetings and the school counselor meetings in April and May. The broader hope is that we will be able to have a counselor specifically assigned to partner with each elementary, middle, and high school, supporting both the administration and the school counselors.
